Gym Rules

Uniforms

The Sullivan Gym Uniform is a tee-shirt, shorts, and gym shoes.  Tee-shirts may be any color, and can have writing or pictures on them.  Any words or pictures must be in compliance with the CPS dress standards, non offensive.  Tee-shirts may not have collars, buttons, or zippers.  Tank top shirts are not allowed.  Shorts can also be any color .  Shorts must fit appropriately for physical activities.  Excessively tight or short gym shorts will not be allowed.  Gym shoes must be worn to participate in class. Platform gym shoes are not allowed.  Students not dressing in the complete gym uniform (but wearing gym shoes) will be allowed to participate in class, however they will loose points towards their grade.  SEE GRADING BELOW

Procedures and Conduct

When students come to the gym they should be dressed and ready for class.  Students will not be allowed to change their clothes in the bathroom when they come to Gym.  They will be allowed time to remove their school shirts and slacks in the gym, but must have their gym uniform on underneath.  All students are to go to their assigned attendance spot on the gym floor, and wait for attendance to be taken.

Gym class is a much less restrictive environment than the classroom.  My rules of conduct are simple:

  • FOLLOW MY DIRECTIONS
  • THERE ARE TWO TIMES TO BE QUIET:   1. WHEN THE WHISTLE BLOWS      2.  WHEN I AM SPEAKING
  • NO FOOD, DRINKS, GUM, BACKPACKS, HAND LOTION,  OR PURSES ALLOWED IN GYM
  • HANDS ARE TO BE KEPT TO YOURSELF

Breaking class rules endangers the other students in class.  I have a very low tolerance for this type of misbehavior.  Serious violators will be referred to the office immediately.  Rule violations also have consequences on student grades.  SEE GRADING BELOW

Grading

Students are graded on a daily point scale from 1 to 10.  Every student begins each day with 10 points.  Points are LOST based on the schedule below.  I do not grade on how well a student plays a particular sport.  We are learning the concepts of physical education (balance, agility, coordination, etc.) not how to play floor hockey.  Each student may use ONE day each Quarter as a medical day...you will not loose any points that day for not participating.

Medical/Absence

Students who  are absent from class or who have a DOCTORS NOTE excusing them from Gym must complete the makeup work which can be accessed from this Web site.  Each makeup  assignment is worth 10 points.  Students will earn their missed points depending on how well they complete the assignment.   Makeup assignments  are posted on the Gym office window.
