Welcome to New Sullivan’s website. New Sullivan is a school
which provides educational opportunities to both general and special needs students
from State Pre-K to eighth grade. We are a Fine and Performing Arts Magnet Cluster
School; our academic
focus is literacy, math and science. We are part of the Education
Connections Grant; which mandates us to foster an inclusive learning environment
for all students. We are located in Cluster 6/Area 17 in the South Chicago Community.
The staff at
New Sullivan Elementary School
is committed to the concept of raising the whole child. We believe that a
child proficient in academic skills but lacking in social graces will find it difficult
to live up to his or her full potential. Likewise, a child who is socially
adept with his peers but unable to master relationships with adults will find it
challenging to apply his or her academic skills in a rewarding manner. We
believe that those children who are able to masterfully blend academic growth with
positive peer and adult relationships will mature into a well-rounded individual
capable of attaining his personal goals and life-long dreams.
New Sullivan students are afforded many opportunities
to become successful and productive members of their perspective communities. Our
vision is to provide each student a variety of academic and extra-curricular activities
and programs before, during and after school. The academic and extra-curricular
programs are designed to be align with classroom instruction and the Illinois Learning
Standards (ILS). Partnerships supporting programs and activities include: Washington
Mutual Bank, SUCCESS,
SES
, Metropolitan Family Services Mac Arthur Foundation and South Chicago Chambers
just to name a few.
New Sullivan’s success is attributed to the outstanding
commitment of parents, school personnel, the Local School Council, the PAC and the
South Chicago Community. All stakeholders are indeed committed to ensuring that
every child will reach his/her full potential.
Our website will provide students, parents and the community
with updated information about the school. I hope that you will find our website
both informative and enjoyable.
Striving for academic excellence,
Dr. Joyce L. Nelson, Principal
